Backyard Shenanigans

Superman and flower gardens have no chance at capturing my attention like these two kids did!  The expressions and posture of a 5 year old boy, whose entire world is colored by his imagination, are so much fun to work with.  He is also into superheros and Star Wars, so I had plenty of common ground to talk with him about!

And then…  You add a toddling sister to the mix, whose mind is constantly fitting the pieces of her world together…  For example, I brought along a stuffed puppy as a back up distraction (kids love discovering new things, and I love it because it makes great photos).  As soon as she saw the toy, her brow furrowed and she immediately turned around and toddled away.  My first thought was, “Well, that didn’t work…”  I watched her make a beeline to the neighbors fence and look intently through the wooden slats.  The neighbors had dogs and she had made the connection!

This family had originally booked at a JUST KIDS portrait event hosted by my friend.  Of course, illness has no conscience so they had to cancel their 30 minute session there.  I offered to come to their own backyard when the kids were happy and healthy again.  To my delight they decided to change their 30 minute JUST KIDS session into an hour with the whole family!

Thanks for reading!  This is just one of my ways of putting a smile back in the world!
